AI search rarely fails to recommend a site because the site doesn't exist. It fails because the AI cannot find clear, trustworthy, citable facts on it.
When a launch goes live, the first instinct is to ask AI "do you know us?" If the answer is no, panic sets in. Before doing that, walk five things in order. Skip a step and the rest of the work is wasted.
1. Start with crawl eligibility
Don't ask AI first. Check whether search engines can find you.

If site: returns zero or misses your key long-tail pages, AI will struggle to source from them.
Common causes: robots.txt blocking AI crawlers, key pages missing from sitemap, broken internal links, content rendered only via client-side JS.
2. Then check page capture
Many sites have a page but not a page that AI is willing to cite. Common patterns:
- Lead paragraph is a tagline, not an answer
- Service boundaries unclear
- Specs, processes, prices or limits buried or vague
- No FAQ, no tables, no checklists, no cases
- Critical content trapped in images, posters or collapsed sections

3. Then check the evidence chain
AI does not cite "we are professional" pages. It needs extractable, verifiable evidence:
- FAQ entries that map to real long-tail searches
- Processes with explicit steps and timing
- Tables for comparison, pricing, specs
- Cases in 5 sections (background / diagnosis / action / result / boundary — see What to do when case studies are limited)
- Checklists AI can lift as ordered lists
Evidence is unrelated to prose elegance. A paragraph where every sentence has a number, verb and time anchor beats a beautiful but vague essay.
4. Then check the off-site source pool
If steps 1-3 are clean and AI still doesn't cite, the gap is off-site.
In our Phase 0 data on GEO-related queries, AI repeatedly returns to: CSDN, Zhihu, Sohu, Toutiao, Douyin, Tencent Cloud and Aliyun developer communities. That is not a universal law, but it is a useful first-pass distribution priority.
If a brand publishes only on a low-frequency PR outlet, AI is unlikely to surface it in the short term.

5. Only then run the review
A common error is putting "review" first — asking AI to grade your site before any baseline exists.
Right order:
- Before site changes — establish T0 baseline (run 30 P0 long-tail queries)
- Site changes + 7-14 days — T1: indexing and mentions
- Off-site posts + 7-21 days — T2: citations
- Full round + 3-6 weeks — T3: complete comparison

6. The 5-step diagnosis order
